Programme Highlights

Offered on a self-study basis, the Advanced Diploma in General Insurance and Risk Management (ADGIRM) programme is developed and awarded by the Singapore College of Insurance (SCI) as a professional qualification for insurance industry practitioners. It provides candidates with advanced insights into general insurance especially from a claim, risks management, business and economics perspective. It is also suitable for those who wish to augment their existing general academic qualifications by obtaining an industry-specific Advanced Diploma qualification.

Exemption Policy

1. A non-refundable administration fee of S$54.00 (inclusive of prevailing GST rate) is payable for each application submitted. The application will not be processed if the processing fee is not paid in full and the supporting documentary evidence is not submitted to SCI within 5 working days from the date of application.

2. Upon successful application, the applicant will be notified by post and an exemption fee of S$216.00 (inclusive of prevailing GST rate) per exempted module becomes payable within 30 days from the date of approval by SCI. If this required payment is not fully made by this period, the exemption to be granted will not be valid and the applicant will have to re-apply for the exemption as a fresh application.

3. As a requirement, a candidate taking the ADGIRM Programme must register and pass the examination module Legal Aspects of Insurance, in order to complete the programme. For any candidate with a law degree and studied the insurance law as a subject during his undergraduate years, he may apply for exemption from Legal Aspects of Insurance module, subject to the consideration and approval of SCI, which in its absolute discretion shall decide.

4. A candidate can apply for exemption at any stage during his study. However, there will not be any fee refund for any study text already purchased or examination already registered for.

5. For such candidate who wishes to achieve the respective ADGIRM qualification, the number of exemptions to be granted, if applicable, shall not be more than 1 module at the Advanced Diploma level subject to the consideration and approval of SCI, which in its absolute discretion shall decide.

Note: Please note that, in respect of the Advanced Diploma level, no such certificate or diploma will be awarded if the candidate does not sit and pass at least 50% of the total number of examination modules relating to that particular level, and not counting the examination passes or exemptions of modules at the Certificate level.


INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS Requirements To Qualify For ADGIRM Module Exemption

1. The syllabi and/or the learning outcomes of the qualification or its examination(s) must match that of the current SCI DGIRM/ADGIRM. In addition, the assessment method of the qualification or its examination(s) must be of a similar standard, scope and rigour to the SCI DGIRM/ADGIRM examination(s).

2. The qualification must no be obtained more than 10 years from the date of application for exemption.

3. The qualification has been awarded by a recognised institution or professional body.

4. The qualification is of an equivalent or of a higher academic standard than that of the SCI qualification.

5. The qualification obtained mus be by taking an examination and not by exemption or transfer of credit from a course or programme previously taken.

6. Partial qualification obtained from any other institution or professional body will not be considered for exemption. The SCI will not entertain any enquiry or appeal in this respect.

Note: However, in cases where candidates may have been granted exemptions by SCI for certain ADGIRM modules, The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) may exercise its right to review the merits of each case based on its prevailing Recognition of Prior Learning policy.

Appeal Procedure

The candidate may initiate an appeal process relating to examination conduct matters if he is not satisfied with the examination results. This is a review of the original marking to ensure that the agreed mark scheme has been applied correctly. The SCI aims to provide the outcome within 30 days of receipt of such request.

A fee of S$216.00 (inclusive of prevailing GST rate) is payable for this service and is refundable if the review results in a pass. If the candidate has booked a resit for the same module examination and the review results in a pass, before resitting the examination, only the prepaid examination fee for this module will be refunded.

Please write to talk2us@scidomain.org.sg to request for the ‘Appeal Form’. This form must be completed and submitted together with the required fee before the process can commence and must be submitted to the SCI within 14 working days from the release of the results. The appeal result is final and no further correspondence will be entertained.
